Initial RISC-V Support Landed Upstream in Eclipse, and Daily Builds Are Available

Eclipse is an open-source and powerful integrated development environment (IDE). It supports many programming languages and provides developers with a unified platform for writing, debugging, and managing code. Eclipse also has a strong plugin system that can be flexibly extended for different needs.

Recently, engineers from the RevyOS team at the Institute of Software, Chinese Academy of Sciences (ISCAS), together with developers from other open-source communities, successfully brought initial riscv64 support into the upstream Eclipse repositories. More than twenty issues and pull requests were created during the process, covering key components including SWT and Equinox. Eclipse can now support Java development based on OpenJDK on riscv64.

The related changes have already been merged upstream. If you are interested, visit the link below and choose the latest build date in the Integration Builds section. For builds dated 2024-09-29 or later, riscv support is included in the daily builds. Enter the daily build page and select "Eclipse SDK -> Linux (64 bit version for RISC-V)" to download and try it.

Going forward, the RevyOS team will continue improving Eclipse support on riscv64. More optimizations and refinements are on the way.

ISCAS warmly welcomes open-source contributors who are passionate about open-source technology to join and help advance Eclipse on the riscv64 platform.

About ISCAS and the RevyOS Team

The RevyOS team is part of PLCT Lab, ISCAS. ISCAS is both a Development Partner and a Training Partner of RISC-V International, and in August 2024 it also received certification as a RISC-V Ecosystem Lab.
